Honoring a legacy and embracing new beginnings: BIA staff update
As we bid a fond farewell to Christiane Abouzeid after over 20 years of outstanding service to the BioIndustry Association, we are also thrilled to announce new leadership changes within our Policy and Public Affairs team. These updates mark an exciting new chapter for the Association as we build on Christiane’s incredible legacy and expand our focus on the regulatory and policy priorities of our members.
It is with heartfelt appreciation that we announce the retirement of Christiane Abouzeid, a highly respected member of the BIA staff for over 20 years. Throughout her time with us, Christiane has exemplified dedication, and a true commitment to our values, leaving an indelible mark on both the Association and her colleagues.
Christiane retired from the BIA on 31 December and we want to extend our deepest gratitude for her many years of service and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
The work done throughout the regulatory review last year has, in tandem with Christiane’s retirement, challenged us to think more broadly about our work in this area and we know it is a focus of significant importance to our membership in both existing and new sub-sectors. We would therefore also like to announce some changes we will be making within our Policy and Public Affairs team – enabling a more diversified and joined-up regulatory agenda.
I am delighted to announce that Martin Turner will be our new Director of Policy and External Affairs. Martin’s brief will expand to include the Regulatory Policy agenda and he will continue to drive our policy and external affairs output as he has done over the past 12 months.
Emma Lawrence has been promoted, and she will be our new Head of Data Tech Policy and Public Affairs. She will continue to focus on data, AI and genomics policy, whilst providing support to Martin to enable the smooth running of the Policy and Public Affairs Team.
Rosie Lindup has also been promoted, and she will be our new Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager. Rosie will be managing our medicines regulatory work, ensuring that this ties in with the access agenda.
To support the diversification of Rosie’s role, Emily Klein will now also step up and she will become the new Senior Policy and Public Affairs Executive.
Abby Clark our Manufacturing Programme Senior Executive, will now report into Emma as she continues her work across medicines manufacturing.
Cristina Hernandez Vazquez our Skills Programme Executive becomes a permanent employee and will now report to Sam Care in the delivery of her Skills, People and Talent brief.
This is an exciting time for the Association, and it is testament to Christiane’s many years of hard work and considerable expertise, that has put us in excellent stead with key stakeholders and will allow us to shape the Regulatory Affairs agenda for biotech and life sciences into the future.
