CEO Update | 6 September 2021
I was delighted to welcome guests from across the sector to our Garden Party, where we were able to meet in person and enjoy a great night of networking and celebrating sector success. It was so good to network again in real life rather than on a small screen and I was particularly delighted that key members of the UK Vaccine Taskforce and the BIA COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacturing Taskforce were able to attend, including Dame Kate Bingham and Professor Jonathan Van Tam. To catch up on highlights of the evening please view our photos here.
The BIA has a fantastic line up of events running through the Autumn, headlined by our UK Bioscience Forum. We are delighted to announce that Jonathan Milner, co-founder and deputy Chairman at Abcam will be giving a keynote address as will Indro Murkerjee, the new CEO of Innovate UK. These keynote address will be complimented with a variety of panels and workshops looking at the ‘new era for biotechnology’. Registrations are now open and further details can be found here.
BIA members will be heading to Westminster this week for our annual Parliament Day. This is a great opportunity to communicate the extraordinary work taking place in the UK biotech and life sciences sector and help policy makers understand how they can deliver on the Government’s promise to make the UK a life sciences superpower. Following last year’s fully virtual Parliament Day, this will be a hybrid event with a mix of online and face-to-face meetings. We will also be launching our recommendations for the Comprehensive Spending Review, so do keep an eye on the BIA’s Twitter account on Wednesday lunchtime for further details.
