About Teesside University

Company Description (Long) The National Horizons Centre (NHC) is a £22M purpose-built Biosciences research, education and training facility at Teesside University made possible by substantial financial support from the Tees Valley Combined Authority and the European Regional Development Fund. It is located adjacent to the CPI National Biologics Manufacturing Centre and Teesside University’s Centre for Professional Executive Development close to Darlington mainline station. NHC forms the focus of Teesside University’s commitment to the Biosciences industry and plays a pivotal role in tackling the biosciences sector challenges by collaborating with industry partners, addressing skills needs and creating and providing access to world class research and facilities that enable new discoveries and opportunities. Facilities and capability include: Skills and Continuing Professional Development: Leading provider of qualifications, skills and training in the life and biosciences, including CPD for biomanufacturing industries and the healthcare sector. Bioanalytical: Ultra Performance Liquid and Gas Chromatography systems coupled with high specification mass spectrometry instruments (including shape selective capability) enabling proteomics, metabolomics, biopharmaceutical analysis, trace analysis and protein structural studies. Also available is forensic genomics instrumentation for comprehensive microbial and forensic research genomics. Bioimaging: High performance Confocal Microscopy for cellular physiology and dynamics; MALDI and DESI Mass Spectrometry for molecular imaging and Confocal Raman Microscopy for cells, tissues and microorganisms with live cell imaging capability. Bioinformatics: Dedicated computer suite equipped with 20 high performance workstations with a wide range of bioinformatics software capability. Bioprocessing: Comprehensive microbial and mammalian bioreactors at lab scale for batch and fed-batch cultivation, downstream chromatography and TFF.
