Translational Research Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our small, expert Translational Research Hub as a Translational Research Manager. The team’s main purpose is to make a difference to people’s lives by supporting the conversion of ideas from research into new medical interventions, such as drugs, therapies and medical devices.
This role will support a portfolio of research with a particular focus on the exciting and rapidly expanding area of digital health, software and AI, which have the potential to revolutionise the way care is delivered to patients, for example arising from recent investments in the LEAP digital Health Hub and Isambard AI.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong scientific background in human health, perhaps from the NHS, industry or a funding body, who is looking join the HE sector to work collaboratively with researchers propelling innovation from bench to bedside.
Reporting to the Head of Translational Research Hub, you will:
Develop relationships with world leading academics across the university, and identify unique opportunities for translation and collaboration.
Project manage a portfolio of translational projects, focussing on digital health, software and AI, and provide support to a broader range of modalities, indications and development stages if needed.
Provide in-depth expert advice and guidance to drive the progression of projects, sourcing input from others as needed, including our Entrepreneur in Residence for digital health.
Distil complex technical information into clear value propositions and create long-term project development plans.
Provide guidance on the best translational funding paths to pursue, and support the development of competitive translational funding bids.
Initiate and manage interactions with research partners, including NHS Trusts, charities, funders and industry to identify, create and structure collaborations.
A typical day in the role could include: discussing a new project with an academic; reviewing a draft grant application; speaking with a company about a collaboration; horizon scanning funding opportunities and mapping against your project portfolio; and attending an afternoon seminar / networking event.
You should apply if
You have:
A strong scientific background in a discipline relevant to human health.
Substantial experience of facilitating translational research, product development, or business development in academia, healthcare or industry.
Detailed knowledge of relevant funding schemes and funders.
A good understanding of academia, and ability to work well with academics.
Experience and/or genuine interest in digital health, software, AI, or MedTech.
An ability to work effectively across organisational structures and academic disciplines.
Adept at managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
Highly strategic and analytical mindset.
Excellent communication skills, with diplomacy and strong negotiation abilities.
