Developments in life sciences: tariffs, the sector plan and spending review

The national and international environment for innovative life sciences and biotech is changing fast, with tariffs, capital markets and worsening public finances creating significant uncertainty for businesses. At the same time, the Government has identified life sciences as a priority growth industry and is currently developing a new Sector Plan to deliver targeted support and investment to enable further growth. BIA has been working to shape it's recommendations to address key challenges facing the sector, including access to finance, data and skills, and perceptions of the UK commercial environment.

In parallel, the Government is also conducting a Spending Review to set public investment from 2026 to 2029, which will determine whether the full ambitions of the Life Sciences Sector Plan are delivered.

Join BIA's experts to understand the latest in a rapidly changing national and international policy environment, what's in the Sector Plan, what we're advocating for in the Spending Review and what it means for the sector in 2025 and beyond.
